Hello everyone! And welcome back to 'Supersizer1's blog'!
Today, as you can see above, I'm going to be talking about today's repeated episode of 'The Supersizers Eat... The French Revolution'. And just above, is a picture of Sue and Giles at their dining table, dressed as King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. Throughout most of the episode, they are living the life of these historical figures, whilst mainly focusing on the food of the 1780s.
Sue Perkins is dressed up to look like Marie Antoinette, even at Marie's bath time - although, I've chosen not to display that image, as it didn't look very good, and also doesn't make Sue look that good either. So instead, I've used the image from when Sue and Giles go to experiment with electricity, and Sue is forced to have negative ions passed through her. While Giles messes around below her, and to use a quote from Sue, Giles is getting his "anus into..." her "...force field." - which, for me, is the BEST quote from the whole episode, and possibly, the BEST scene too.
Above, is another image from the show, showing Sue applying her make-up for the meal where her and Giles get dressed up, yet again, and Sue's wig gets decorated with her own black rimmed glasses, and other bits and bobs, to define Sue. She also drinks a black drink, which supposedly helped the King and Marie in the bedroom, to consummate their marriage. The woman standing next to Sue, also said that she - meaning Sue, looked like a clown. But, in my opinion, the bright pink cheeks rather suited her, don't you think so?
And this photo is, in my opinion, the funniest from the episode, as it shows Giles being made-up by Sue. And also is pretty funny, because Giles doesn't really like wearing make-up, I gathered, and so, to see him smiling is quite nice - plus, it does ACTUALLY suit him.
This next picture shows Sue's dislike of the black drink, which I spoke about previously. Also, it shows what kind of make-up Marie Antoinette used to wear.
And, this final picture shows Sue and Giles as revolutionaries, after the death of Marie Antoinette - who got beheaded a while back in the episode, although, that bit wasn't shown; they just showed Sue dressed as Marie, in her prison cell, with only a simple soup, with added noodles (I think), to give her extra strength to face the guillotine.
And, all in all, this was a VERY good episode, with lots of historical information thrown in. But, it also had a pretty big comic element thrown in, with the help of Sue and Giles - which for me, makes the show stand out above other historical documenteries. I also like how they don't take it too seriously, but instead make light of the horrible and tragic events of the past; like the execution of Marie and King Louis XVI.
Thank you for reading this blog post, and I hope to read some of your comments on it. Bye for now, Ss1!

ReplyDeleteAh ha! I agree, she does suffer quite a bit. And yeah, a lot of people have said to them, that they want a new series of it. But, at the moment, it's just 'Sue and Giles' Good Life', coming either this month, or November.
